Membership is normally* automatic for permanent employees under age 75. Some employees who have a contract of less than 3 months may not have automatic membership but can join the Scheme by opting in. Please check your contract of employment. Upon commencement of employment you should have received a welcome pack from your employer, if not please find the short and full guides in the Forms and Resources page.
If you do not fall into the automatic entry category and wish to join the LGPS then please complete the Option to Join and Rejoin Main Section Form and a Membership Information Form.
* If you are employed by a designating body, such as a town or parish council, or by a non-local government organisation which participates in the LGPS, called an admission body. Usually admission body organisations provide a public service, like PCT’s (Primary Care Trusts) or are organisations that have detached from local government control, for example Peterborough’s Vivacity or South Northants Homes in Northamptonshire. You can only join if your employer nominates you for membership of the scheme. LGSS Pensions will need to see a copy of the Minutes of the meeting approving membership of the scheme. Then please complete forms Option to Join and Rejoin Main Section Form and Membership Information Form.
If you would like to nominate someone to receive a lump sum death grant, or amend your nominees then please complete the Death Grant – Expression of Wish Form.
