A Returning or Acting Returning Officer officiates at elections and all local authorities are required to employ one.
The following posts are pensionable :
- County or Local or District Returning Officer in
- Town and
- Parish elections.
- Regional Returning Officer and Local Returning Officer in European elections.
The LGPS states that only the fees paid to a Returning Officer or Acting Returning Officer are pensionable. All other payment are NOT pensionable. The Returning Officer can elect to opt out of paying pension contributions in their role.
The above posts need to be kept separate to any other LGPS posts the officer already has.
The following posts are non pensionable:
All Returning Officers for the Police and Crime Commissioner elections.
All Returning Officers for the EU Referendum.
All fees to Counting Officers and Regional Counting Officers are non pensionable.
Year End Return 2016-2017
A Year End Return is required for all Returning Officer posts, regardless of whether any contributions have been taken. Please complete and return the following Return to PenEmployers@northamptonshire.gov.uk by 30th April 2017.
