You can opt out of the Scheme at any time.
However this will end the valuable protection for your family that being a member provides, plus your tax and National Insurance contributions will increase.
You may wish to take independent financial advice before making a decision to opt out.
If you opt out of the Scheme with less than 2 years membership you will be entitled to a refund of your pension contributions, less a deduction for tax and a further deduction to buy you back into the State Second Pension.
If you opt out with 2 years or more membership you will be entitled to either an award of deferred benefits, payable from your retirement age, or a transfer to another pension arrangement. You would not be entitled to a refund.
Please note that you can only opt out of a post/job once you have started that post/job.
Should you wish to opt out you will need to complete an Opt Out Form which is available from our Forms and Resources page.
