determination was made by the Pensions Ombudsman on 13 May 2015 that has an impact on the lump sum payment resulting from commutation of annual pension at retirement for those members of the Firefighters’ Pension Scheme that retired between 1 December 2001 and 21 August 2006 (inclusive).

The Government Actuary’s Department issued a Technical Bulletin on the matter on 15 May 2015 and a ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ document has been issued by the Department for Communities and Local Government.

All members who were entitled to an additional lump sum as a result of the revised commutation factors were paid the additional lump sum due including interest from the date pension commenced on 1 February 2016.
